doc-mark privacy policy
In short: doc-mark saves the pages you bookmark, the text you highlight and the notes you write. Without an account, all of it stays in your browser. If you sign in to sync, a copy is stored in your private account so it can reach your other browsers. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared.
What doc-mark stores
| Data | When | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Page address, title, bookmark flag, page note, tags | Only for pages you bookmark, highlight, tag or write a note on | Your browser; your account if signed in |
| Scroll position | Only on bookmarked pages, so you can resume reading | Your browser; your account if signed in |
| Highlighted text, a few words around it, color, note | Only when you highlight | Your browser; your account if signed in |
| Email address | Only if you sign in | Your account (Supabase) |
| Name and profile picture from Google | Only if you choose "Continue with Google" | Your account (Supabase) |
| Your chosen Markdown export folder | Only if you export | Your browser only |
What doc-mark does not do
- It does not record your browsing history. Pages you visit but don't save are never stored.
- It runs on every website so highlighting works on any documentation site, but it only reads page text when you highlight something or when it redraws your saved highlights.
- It has no ads, analytics, crash reporting or tracking of any kind.
- It does not sell, rent or share your data with anyone.
Sync and the services involved
Sign-in is optional. If you sign in:
- Your saved pages and highlights are stored with Supabase (supabase.com), a hosted database provider. Each account can only read its own rows; this is enforced by the database, not just the app.
- If you sign in with an email code, the code is sent by email through Google (Gmail). If you use "Continue with Google", Google shares your email, name and profile picture with Supabase to create your account.
- All traffic between the extension and these services is encrypted (HTTPS).
Markdown export
Exported Markdown files are written to a folder on your device that you choose, or to your Downloads folder. They are never uploaded anywhere by doc-mark.
Browser permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Access to all websites | Highlights must work on any documentation site you read |
| Storage, unlimited storage | Keep your pages and highlights in your browser |
| Context menus | The "Highlight with doc-mark" right-click option |
| Side panel (Chrome) | The doc-mark panel next to the page |
| Alarms | Sync every few minutes while you're signed in |
| Identity | Open the Google sign-in window |
| Downloads (asked only when needed) | Save Markdown files in browsers without a folder picker |
Keeping and deleting your data
- Your data is kept until you delete it.
- Deleting a highlight hides it everywhere. A record that it was deleted is kept so the deletion can reach your other browsers; it is removed completely when your account is deleted.
- Removing the extension deletes everything it stored in that browser.
- To delete your account and everything stored with it, email the address below from the email you signed in with. It will be deleted within 30 days.
Children
doc-mark is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above will be updated and the new version published here.
